Why We Need Encouragement!
At different times in our lives we encounter situations that causes us to feel affraid, anxious, doubtful, discouraged and uncertain!
Examples of those "things" are:
Uncertainties about your finances!
Fears about losing your job for one reason or another!
Anxities about your children's safety and wellbeing!
Doubts about your health!
Uncertainties about the future!
At the end of the day, for most of us having to think about and deal with a combination of any or all those challenges usually becomes too much to handle mentally and emotionally! However, this is not the case for everyone.
That is because, "life is 10 percent what happens to us and 90 percent how we respond to it". This implies that we can have some say over the outcome of our situations and some of us know a better way to respond. The question is, how exactly do we do that?
Before I share that let's take a look at the different sources we tend to look to for relief from our challenging situations.
Sources We Look To!
In times of difficulties many of us will turn to close friends or family members, our pastor, or a mentor (if we're lucky enough to have one) for advice. Others of us who have a hard time asking 'people' for help will turn to a book, the bible or a motivational personality for guidance and inspiration.
For the most part, these are potentially "good" sources for us to look to for help. That is, if they exist and are readily available for you to go to. We know that is not always the case!
When they do exist they will often fall short for one reason or another!
How These Sources Fall Short!
In addition to the lack of availability, these sources also share a couple of other common shortcomings. An important shortcoming they each possess that prevents them from being as effective as we need them to be is, their positive effects on us are temporary!
You know what I mean?! The good feeling you experience after a motivational workshop or a good church sermon or pep talk from a friend, etc. They are all momentary in nature, because once the interaction comes to an end, so does the feeling they produce!
Then there is another very significant ingredient that's usually missing from most, if not all, of those sources and it is in my opinion the key reason they fall short - that is they do not show us "how to" do whatever it is we are being advised to do. In many of those instances it's not their fault because they don't usually don't know how to do it themselves. So there you have it!
The thing is, without knowing "how to" do the thing we're being advised to do we will not be able to make any significant or lasting change!
